While the wiki is great for organizing your campaign world, it’s not the best way to chronicle your adventures. For that purpose, you need a blog!

The Adventure Log will allow you to chronologically order the happenings of your campaign. It serves as the record of what has passed. After each gaming session, come to the Adventure Log and write up what happened. In time, it will grow into a great story!

Best of all, each Adventure Log post is also a wiki page! You can link back and forth with your wiki, characters, and so forth as you wish.

One final tip: Before you jump in and try to write up the entire history for your campaign, take a deep breath. Rather than spending days writing and getting exhausted, I would suggest writing a quick “Story So Far” with only a summary. Then, get back to gaming! Grow your Adventure Log over time, rather than all at once.

The Cobras Foray To Winterhaven

Motivated by Gold and their missing mentor Douven, the Cobras make their way from Fallcrest towards Winterhaven. Their goals seem to be to find word of Douven’s whereabouts, and map a supposedly long abandoned keep. The keep has a dark history of one Sir Keegan going mad and killing the occupants of the Keep then disappearing. No one seems to have any more information on the subject. On the way to Winterhaven on the Kings Road, the Cobras were ambushed by a group of Kobolds. The Kobolds faught to the death leaving the Cobras a bit bloodied and very sticky (one of them at least) but otherwise they dispatched the Kobolds without much trouble. They looted the corpses of their valuables (the highlight of which turned out to be two Dragon Scales) and continued west towards the town of Winterhaven.

Winterhaven had some information on their friend, as well as a comfortable inn to rest at and socialize. They met a grumpy elf woman named Ninaran, a nice elf woman named Delphina Moongem, an elderly scholar called Valthrun the Prescient, and overheard lots of local stories from Eilian the Old. The inn’s proprieter, Salvana Wrafton, is happy to see the Cobras and the extra money they have brought to the inn, which she laments has seen fewer and fewer customers of late. There have been strange stories of a creepy priest with a ram’s tattoo on his face passing through town, and trouble on the road from Kobolds. Everyone in town seems to have been friendly with the Cobra’s mentor Douven, but no one has seen him, or the help he hired on, in quite some time. One townsperson was able to draw a good map to the location of the dig site, a half day’s journy from town. Everyone in town seems hessitant to go look at the place for themselves, most likely because of the rumors of Kobolds in the area. No one knows much about the keep to the north, but Delphina has seen Orcs prowling about the place, and is certain the creepy priest went there. Valthrun has agreed to research the subject more and get back with the Cobras within the next day or two with more information.

Finding out what they could the Cobras bedded down for their first night in Winterhaven…

Day One, outside of Winterhaven

Striking out from Winterhaven after buying vital supplies and provisions the group heads east towards Douven’s dig site. Immediately they are set upon by a vicious pack of Kobolds. These 5 were very different from the ones the Cobras encountered days ago on the road from Fallcrest. More fearsome and powerful these Kobolds almost killed Borax and put a large hurt on others in the group. There was even a shaman like kobold who launched balls of vile acid. The Cobras dug deep and pulled all their tricks out of the bag and were able to break the Kobolds. Solarius had particular luck with her Acid Arrow spell, hitting the Shaman kobold in the eye, gouging a horrible acid leaking cavity in its head. This enraged the kobold who charged the group, spewing flames blindly. Sha landed another powerful blow on the shaman who then fled to the east, past the dig site entrance, crying out that “Irontooth must be warned!”. Fortunately, the shamans wounds proved too great and he fell before delivering his message of warning. The party made quick work of the remaining skirmisher and breathed a sigh of relief as they caught their breath and decided their next course of action.

Upon inspecting the Kobolds, the Cobras found a small religious icon on the shaman. Solarius was able to identify an image carved into the base as a symbol of Orcus, demon lord of the undead and the shadow world. After some debate it was determined that the Kobolds, while a threat, would need to be dealt with after looking for their friend and mentor Douven. The party made camp on the road leading to dig sight to rest and regain their strength.

Just before sunrise the group was alerted to a slight noise coming from the main road. It turns out the Kobolds had sent a spy or scout to keep an eye on the Cobras. Dressed only in an equipment belt, the Kobold had managed to stay hidden until Solarius set fire to the bushes and trees he was hiding behind. The Cobras quickly gave chase and ended the watcher before he could report back wherever he came from. Now alert and awake the adventurers decided to strike camp early and make their way to the dig site.

As they wandered the path the Cobras soon came to a large excavation site. They strode forward boldly and saw a suspicious looking group of humanoids in the main site. As the group of heroes eyed the group of humans and demihumans a sharp eyed Borax noticed the apparent leader of the group, a Gnome, eyeing a large crossbow. The ruse was finished and combat broke out across the dig site. The fighting was swift and vicious, the human thugs going down quickly to might and magic, the Gnome surprising the group and turning invisible. Manny dispatched a halfling who had intended to strike at the group from a distance, and Borax faced off against a ravenous guard drake, who seemed intent on snacking on Borax’s nether regions.

While fighting the Gnome, Manny discovered a talking pile of rags and blankets that turned out to be their lost friend Douven! This news rallied the Cobras and they swiftly dispatched the gnome and cut their friend free of his bonds. It turns out Douven’s site was taken over a week ago by this Gnome and his group of thugs. They had forced the workers Douven brought to keep digging past the remains and were looking for the mirror the group had found tucked away in a box. As Douven was brought back to Winterhaven he was able to recall bits and pieces of conversation, but not much of it useful. He knew the mirror was destined for the keep, and that the Gnome had used the name of Kalarel and Orcus to scare and motivate the humans working for him. Douven wanted nothing more than to return to Winterhaven and the Inn, rest, and then return home to see his wife. The Cobras were eager to get their friend to safety and traveled back to Winterhaven, spirits high with success in finding their friend. Of course everyone had a small voice in the back of their mind warning them that the trip to Shadowfell keep was looking more and more dangerous by the minute.

The Kobold Menace

The Cobras returned to Winterhaven and everyone was excited to have Douven back. The townspeople listened to the tale of the wicked Gnome with interest and excitement. Everyone was especially worried to hear news of the dread Orcus. That he might have a cult in the area was laughed off nervously by some, and taken with all the impact that news of gods and deities has on the lesser intellects of the world. Only one person, the elf woman Ninaran, seemed to take the Cobras news of a cult of Orcus seriously. She pleaded with the heroes to travel south towards the waterfall known to be in the woods, and destroy the death cult she suspected was based there. The players were not interested in listening to someone who had given them such a cold shoulder, and were suspicious of Ninaran’s sudden personality change. They placated the elf with vague promises to look into the matter which seemed to make her happy, but still nervous and perhaps a bit impatient for something.

The next day the Cobras were approached by Lord Paldraig who didn’t seem to take the news of a possible cult of Orcus very seriously. Despite Borax’s best attempts to convince the Lord Mayor of the dangers involved in such an activity, the Lord was not willing to part with more than 250 gold pieces for definitive proof that the Kobold threat was eliminated. Once the group decided to go ahead and take up this task, Lord Paldraig gave them directions to the possible location of the Kobold lair, and a word of caution about a mysterious figure named “Irontooth” who was supposedly organizing the Kobolds into raiding parties and whatnot. The directions to the lair, interestingly, were very similar to the ones given to the Cobras by Ninaran.

The group set off towards the wilderness in search of the kobolds and eventually discovered their lair. A crude camp had been set up outside of a waterfall, and the party soon found themselves in a pitched battle with dozens of Kobolds. Frantic fighting carried across the water and under the waterfall, where an ambush had been set up for the party. Luckily Borax had taken the initiative to “smoke the monsters out” by breathing fire into a low opening near the mouth of the waterfall. The fight raged into the cave behind the falls, ending with a roar as the mighty Irontooth revealed himself from the caves rear.

The cobras had never fought such an impressive foe. Irontooth was a massive orc, with whirling tattoos of Orcus proudly displayed on his face and chest. He tore into the party like a whirling dervish, sending mighty clubs smashing in all directions. Manny was felled by a terrible blow to the head, and is lucky to be alive today. With their last reserves of strength, the Cobras dealt the killing stroke to Irontooth, and his corpse hit the ground of the cave with a crash. His last words were to his master Kalarel, and Orcus.

Limping back to Winterhaven the Cobras knew that they had survived a great ordeal, and could now truly be called Heroes.

Oh, and the loot they found was quite impressive, enough so to make even the near dead Manny smile.

Into the Keep

Proudly returning to Winterhaven with the head of Irontooth, the Cobras of Fallcrest were greated as heroes and saviors! They presented their grousome trophy to Lord Paldraig and were applauded by the Lord and given their reward. The townspeople were eager to hear the story of the Mighty Cobras and drinks were free flowing for the group. The celebration lasted well into the night and the whole town came out to hear for themselves how the heroes from Fallcrest slew the evil Irontooth. Valthrun the Precient came forth from the crowd and presented some very interesting information to Sha.

Valthrun told Sha that the Keep they were going to was origionally built to contain a rift between this world and the realm of shadows, the realm of death, and of Orcus. It is said that hundreds of years ago artisans and holy men from every nation joined together to build a gate accross the rift that had torn open suddenly and without warning. All knew the risk such an opening to the shadow realm posed. Reports indicate that undead were rising throughout the countryside, and all manner of evil was let loose to terrorize the populace. Fortunately at the time the empire was strong, and its armies were able to keep back the tide of corruption while the rift was sealed and entombed beneath the keep. For years the keep stood protected above the rift, but the air of evil never left the place. People said the keep was cursed, or haunted, and only strongest of lords were put in charge. Unfortunately, not all were able to resist the dark call of the shadow realm beneath them.

500 years ago, perhaps 100 years after the rift was sealed, Sir Keegan was put in charge of the keep. He was a noble paladin of Bahamut, whos heroic deeds and good nature were legend. He and his family moved to the keep and spent many years in peace and quite. People assumed that Sir Keegan’s good soul had conquered the shadow rift. Sir Keegan himself felt a sense of pride at having such an easy time at the Shadow Keep, and soon everyone busied themselves with other matters that were more imediate. It was the 6th day of the 6th month in the 6th year that Sir Keegan first heard the voice calling him awake. It was the voice of Orcus, reaching out from the shadow realm with all of his power. He trapped Sir Keegan in a nightmare, one that the noble paladin could not distinguish from reality.

Sir Keegan woke one morning to find himself surrounded by demons. Scrambling from his bed he reached for his sword and slew the red skinned devil. Hearing screams and demonic speach from the hall he quickly rushed out in search of the enemy. His heart fell into his stomach as he saw a demon slip into his childrens room. Mastering his panic Sir Keegan raced through the hall, charged into the room, and drove his sword through the back of the demonic invader. His chest beating rapidly, Sir Keegan knew that his time had come. Demons from the Shadow realm had come for him and his family. He would not let them escape alive. Retrieving his armor from his dressing room the Paladin of Bahamut set out to do his holy duty. He would hunt down all the foul children of Orcus and slay them before they could escape into the countryside.

The slaughter in the Keep lasted until morning. As the first rays of sunlight crested the horizon, Sir Keegan fund himself in the courtyard of the central keep. Several demons were attempting to surround him. As he put his back to the keep door, the light of day reached over the wall and fell upon the horrors attacking him. Only they were not the red skinned long fanged nightmares he had been fighting. Suddenly his friends and comrads were there. Sir Keegan was stunned at the transformation. One of his men, Troken, was shouting orders to the others. “Don’t let him back into the keep! It has taken us hours to trap him in here. The staff are safe inside if we can keep him here!”

Sir Keegan deflated. He did not understand the situation, and asked his friends to help him. But they would not listen to him. “Back you monster! Demon of Orcus! Dare you slay our families, your family, and ask for our help!” With these words the night replayed back to Sir Keegan in his mind. This time however he saw himself cutting down his men at arms, attacking his children in their beds, and putting his dagger through his own wife. With a cry of anguish Sir Keegan turned to the keep door, smashed through his friends, and dissapreared into the keep faster than anyone could follow. He lost himself deep in the darkest recesses of the dungeons, and after a halfhearted search, the men left alive in the Keep gathered the surviving staff and families and abandoned the place. No one since has been back to the keep. The nearby families all moved south to Winterhaven or further. The keep of Shadowfell gained the reputation as an unlucky and cursed place to be avoided at all costs, and spoken of only in whispers.

With this somber story told the Cobras bid everyone good night, and spent the next days in quiet preperation. Manny recovered from his wounds with no permanent injuries and soon everyone was well rested and healthy. The trip to Shadowfell keep was upon them.


Traveling to the Keep was hard going. The road had not been maintained in decades, and a feeling of gloom was ever present. As they approached the keep, the Cobras could all feel the unmistakable grip of evil on the land. A feeling like insects crawling on the body, or of standing next to lightning. Soon even the trees and grass would give up any semblance of life and cheer. Their once green palet was swapped for a depressing brown and grey. It took a week to reach the keep in these conditions.

Shadowfell keep was once an impressive sight, but no longer. Ruined by time and the elements, the once proud keep was now broken. The only signs of life were booted footprints in the dirt. A path had been cleared through the rubble as well, leading directly to the center of the main tower, and into a long gloomy staircase. The Cobras steeled themselves and entered the dark mouth of keep.

As they entered the keep chaos soon broke out. Manny was shot at with a crossbow bolt from the dark, and Sol set a bear rug that was covering a pit trap on fire. Goblins attacked the party from all sides. Trying to out manuever the party the goblins tried to use hit and run tactics but were routed by the Cobras and quickly surrounded. The group chased goblins through storage rooms and sleeping quarters, but ultimately subdued the chittering green midgets. It took little time to catch their breath before they were on their way to explore more of the keep.

Moving through well lit hallways, the party opened a few doors to nowhere interesting and were about to open another when a chilling scream of pain cut through the air. Quickly opening the door the Cobras discovered a torture chamber and several goblins watching a Hobgoblin torturer working on one of their comrads. The party was able to suprise the group and quickly cut down the Hobgoblin and several of his smaller cohorts. Borax was unlucky though as several goblins stabbed, jabbed, and shot him mercilesly. The rest of the group came to his aid though and dispatched the goblins before Borax was killed outright. As the group stood recovering from their ordeal, the temporarily forgotten goblin who was being tortured wrapped his arms suddenly around Manny and declared matter of factly “SPLUG LOVE YOUUUUUUUUU!”

Manny it seems gets all the hugs.

Big Fucking Spider

Our heroes delve deeper into the dungeon and find themselves confronted by Hobgoblins. The Cobras were trapped in the stairwell by two Hobs standing sentry while others released a large Death Spider. Mass confusion ensued and Sol was almost cut down while trying to distance herself from the group. She trapped several Hobs in a room while the spider learned the hard way not to play with fire. Unfortunately for the group, the spider was able to leap across the ceiling and attack the party on the stairs cutting them off from Sol who was quickly surrounded.

Borax, Manny, Sha, and Le’Mon were able to cut down the spider and the remaining Hobs before Sol took a mortal wound. They recovered from the hard fight and took stock of the situation, wary for Hobgoblins or worse…
